Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique, France

The CNRS is the French National Center for Scientific Research. It is the main French publicly funded research organization and was founded in 1939. CNRS employs more than 9,000 researchers in all disciplines throughout France and has become one of the world’s leading research institutions. The Institute of Ecology and Environment of CNRS ( CNRS INEE) is the scientific directorate of CNRS in charge of research on vectors of human diseases. The ‘Laboratoire d’Ecologie Alpine’ (LECA ) is a joined CNRS INEE laboratory with University of Grenoble gathering more than 50 staff. LECA is among the top French research units in ecology and environment and includes a multidisciplinary research team devoted to eco-toxicology and mosquito ecology. Vector researches conducted at LECA Grenoble are mainly focused on insecticide resistance mechanisms and the impact of environment on resistance. LECA hosts a variety of research infrastructures including new level 2 insectaries, molecular biology and biochemistry laboratories, DNA sequencers and conference rooms. Recently, strong efforts were made to develop novel genomic approaches based on next-generation sequencing for the discovery of novel molecular markers associated with insecticide resistance in dengue vectors.

Dr. JP David (the Co-PI of the WIN project) is a senior CNRS researcher leading the LECA mosquito group. His research skills include ecology, evolution, transcriptomics, genomics next generation sequencing and functional biology. These skills are fully dedicated to studying the adaption of mosquitoes to their environment with a strong emphasis on insecticide resistance mechanisms.

Dr. David has coordinated more than 10 projects related to insecticide resistance in mosquitoes, including the ANR project Mosquito-Env and the FP7 project AvecNet (scientific coordinator for CNRS) lead by LSTM. Dr. David has published 60 publications in the topic (H-index>20) and is a regular reviewer for high ranked journals (Plos Biol, PNAS, Plos Genetics, Biochem J, Genetics). He is expert for the French ‘Centre National d’ Expertise sur les Vecteurs’ (CNEV).
