School of Public Health - Tehran University of Medical Sciences, Iran

The School of Public Health , established in 1965, is the oldest and biggest center for health studies in the Middle East. The School has a long track record of research and training in public health and has long served as the research arm of the Ministry of Health and Medical Education in Iran. The Department of Medical Entomology and Vector Control, with 20 academic staff, is the largest medical entomology and vector control department in the country, providing training and research, particularly in the fields of malaria, leishmaniasis, pesticide chemistry and toxicology, molecular biology and insecticide resistance. The Department has served as a WHO Regional Training Centre for Malaria Control and has also conducted many regional training activities on vector borne diseases control. Several academic staff of the Department served as members of Panel of Experts of WHO Vector Biology and Control. The Department houses insectariums, laboratories and research facilities.

Pr. Hassan Vatandoost is a senior medical entomologist and vector control specialist with over 24 years of experience in training and research in the field of vector biology and control and insecticide resistance and management. He is the Chairman of the Department of Medical Entomology and Vector Control. He is also currently member of the WHO Vector Control Advisory Group (VCAG) and has served as WHO temporary advisor in many WHO consultations and meetings. He is the author of 30 books and 245 scientific papers including many on insecticide resistance (H-index in google scholar =32, global citation = 3410).
