National Institute for Malaria Research, India

The National Institute of Malaria Research (NIMR) is a premier ICMR Institute under Department of Health Research, Govt. of India, conducting basic and applied research for malaria and recently diversified into dengue and vector control considering recurrent outbreaks occurring in India. NIMR is a WHO CC for testing and evaluation of public health pesticides. The Institute has 10 field units in different country states with varied ecotypes and provides support to various studies and is collaborating Institute for multi-centric WHOPES trials and country trails for insecticides/interventions. NIMR has published protocols for evaluation of insecticides and interventions based on which the public health products are introduced into the National Vector Control Programme. NIMR regularly conducts trainings/workshops for entomologists from different states of India, students from different universities and post graduate students.

Dr. Kamaraju Raghavendra is senior scientist (Sci 'F') at NIMR, Delhi. He has PhD in insect toxicology from Delhi University, and has about 35 years of experience in the fields of entomology, vector control and insecticide resistance. He has published >100 publications in peer-reviewed journals mostly on insecticide resistance. Dr. Raghavendra is heading the WHO CC and is the PI of B&MGF grant for addressing the Impact of insecticide resistance in malaria vector on disease transmission. He is closely associated with the National Malaria Control Programme of India and is member of several decision-making bodies in India on the use of insecticides and interventions in public health.
