Malaria Research and Training Center, Mali

The Malaria Research and Training Center (MRTC) of the Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry at the University of Sciences, Techniques and Technologies of Bamako (USTTB), is one of the primary research resources in Africa for malaria epidemiology and control studies as well as vector ecology and genetics. The proposed work will be conducted at the Department of Medical Entomology and Disease Vector Ecology (DMEVE-MRTC) under the leadership of Pr. Sekou Traoré. The Mission of the DMEVE is to provide world-class entomologic, epidemiologic and ecologic research on vectorborne diseases. The strength of the centre resides in four main areas including molecular entomology, vector population genetics, host-parasite interactions, vector ecology/epidemiology, vector genomics, acarology and GIS.Research on Aedes species and diseases that they transmit has recently regained interest from the center due to recurrent dengue virus circulation in Mali. The WIN offers a unique opportunity to not only initiate insecticide resistance studies in Aedes mosquitoes but to discuss other areas essential to arbovirus vectors control.
