Swiss Tropical and Public Health Institute

The Swiss Tropical and Public Health Institute (Swiss TPH) was founded as a public organisation in 1943 and is an associated institute of the University of Basel. Over 700 members of staff from 62 nations work for Swiss TPH with activities in 90 countries. The institute receives core funding from the local and Swiss federal government, while the majority of funding comes through competitively acquired grants and income through services. The institute’s mandate is to contribute to improving the health of populations, internationally, nationally and locally, through excellence in research, services and education and training.

Dr. Pie Müller is a medical entomologist with an interest in the biology of disease vectors, aiming to improve vector surveillance and control. He has a strong background in molecular mechanisms of insecticide resistance and the development of diagnostic tools. Dr Müller leads the Vector Control research group at Swiss TPH in Basel and manages the institute’s arthropod pesticide testing facility, a key service for R&D of new vector control tools. He is a member of the WHO Pesticide Evaluation Scheme, is the Swiss TPH PI on the Horizon 2020 consortium entitled “Automated diagnostic platform, data management system and innovative communication tool for improving the impact of malaria vector control interventions ” and coordinates the Swiss national surveillance programme for the surveillance of Aedes albopictus .
