Environmental Health Institude - National Environment Agency of Singapore
The Environmental Health Institute (EHI) is a public health laboratory at The National Environment Agency (NEA). The key thrust of the institute is to acquire knowledge and to develop advanced and cost-effective tools and strategies to support public health operations and policies. Some of EHI’s works include research, surveillance and risk assessment of vector borne diseases. Research at EHI is multidisciplinary and is translated into evidence based public health measures. EHI has been designated as a WHO CC for Reference and research on arbovirus and their associated vectors. Besides contributing to local public health, EHI collaborates with WHO to strengthen the capacity of entomological and viral surveillance in the region and to support the development of a collaborative regional network of national dengue surveillance systems.
The coordinator Dr. Ng Lee Ching is the Director of the Institute, and the Director of the WHO CC. She has spent nearly 20 years contributing to the building of laboratory capabilities for Singapore’s public health, understanding disease risk and 5 transmission, and developing tools and strategies for mitigation of risks.
