Kasetsart University - Department of Entomology, Thailand

Kasetsart University (KU), established in 1943, is the most famous university in agriculture science in Thailand. The Department of Entomology, one of members at the Faculty of Agriculture, focuses on insect pest management including agricultural pests but also urban and public health pests. Technology on insecticide use and insecticide resistant management is the major expertise of the Department. The Integrated Pest Management (IPM) program has been ranked as “Very good” by the evaluation of the Thailand Research Fund (TRF) in 2014. The department of Entomology has been deeply involved in research on dengue vector control. Many of the entomologist officers working in the national Ministry of Public Health graduated from this Department. In addition, the Department has been a part of the intercontinental “Noval Push-pull strategy to reduce Ae. aegypti inside homes” project supported by the B&MGF (2008-2012) in partnership with NDU (Achee & Grieo).

Dr. Waraporn Juntarajumnong is lecturer at the Department of Entomology, Faculty of Agriculture, KU and her interest focus on the molecular and biochemical characterization of pyrethroid resistance in dengue vectors. Since 2010 she is-leading a research programme on “Insecticide resistance of Dengue vectors in Thailand” in cooperation with the Bureau of Vector Borne Diseases, MOPH, and Thailand Research Fund (TRF). She has established strong partnership with the CNRS-LECA and IRD-MIVEGEC team through the STOPVEC programme and the PHC-SIAM project (2013-2014) that aims at a better understanding of the molecular basis of insecticide resistance in Ae. Aegypti .
